United Lions, in partnership with Oakleigh Cannons, is launching a futsal program designed to help young footballers elevate their game through one of the most powerful development tools in world football.

Futsal is the secret weapon behind many elite players. Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Iniesta and many others developed their speed, skill, creativity and confidence by playing futsal as juniors.

Played in tighter spaces with a heavier, low-bounce ball, futsal forces players to think faster, move sharper and take more touches under pressure. It builds the technical foundations that outdoor football alone often can’t fully develop.

Players will work on:

Faster feet
More touches, quicker reactions and better ball control.

Sharper decisions
Faster thinking in tight spaces and under pressure.

Better first touch
Improved close control using a heavier futsal ball.

1v1 confidence
Constant attacking and defensive situations that help players become braver and more composed.

This program also provides an official futsal club pathway. To be eligible for Victorian State Team selection, players must represent a registered futsal club. By joining the United Lions program, players become eligible to trial for state representation and access future opportunities through Victorian and National Championships.

The program includes expert coaching from qualified futsal coaches, official club registration for state eligibility, and league competition experience in Term 4.

For players serious about improving their football, futsal is not extra. It is a game-changer.
